About Your Account(s)

What is the difference between discretionary management vs. working with a non-discretionary advisor?

Maxiam Capital manages all its clients’ assets in a discretionary manner. Discretionary accounts allow a portfolio manager to implement investment decisions within a client’s account without the need for the client’s consent for each trade.

In contrast, non-discretionary accounts do not allow a portfolio manager to have discretion or direct control over the client’s investment portfolio.

In our view, one of the most significant disadvantages of a non-discretionary account is your advisor’s inability to respond quickly when an investment opportunity arises. For instance, many advisors work with multiple clients, and the lag time associated with getting everyone’s consent may result in nonoptimal outcomes for each client.

Does Maxiam Capital hold custody of my assets?

Maxiam Capital does not hold custody of our clients’ assets. In our view, this eliminates a conflict of interest in the Advisor-Client relationship.

Where will my money be held?

Maxiam Capital has chosen to work with Charles Schwab as its primary custodian. Schwab is a leading financial institution that provides our clients with exceptional custody services with some of the lowest fees in the industry.

Will I be able to make withdrawals?

Yes, you may withdraw your money at any time. If cash needs to be raised, trade settlement times may need to be factored in.

How long does it take to open and fund my account?

Opening an account generally takes about 12-24 hours to process.

If you’re transferring funds from another financial institution, funding your account may take five to fourteen business days, depending on how fast the contra firm can process your transfer request.

How do I view my account?

You can view your account by accessing your Private Client Portal or by visiting Login | Charles Schwab to access your account.

Financial Planning

What is a financial plan?

A financial plan helps you identify, organize, and prioritize your financial goals to help you create a roadmap for achieving them.

How often do I meet with my Wealth Advisor to review my financial plan?

At a minimum, we recommend meeting for quarterly calls and an in-depth annual review.

How do I stay organized to keep track of my financial plan?

Your Private Client Portal will serve as a personal financial dashboard allowing you to monitor your accounts, stay organized, and view your entire financial picture in one place.

How secure is my Private Client Portal?

We take your data privacy very seriously and have chosen to work with eMoney Advisor, a leading enterprise solutions provider in the financial industry. Serviced by eMoney Advisor, your client portal utilizes advanced security features and protocols to keep your data safe, private, and secure 24/7.

Comprehensive security measures include password protection, Secure Socket Layer encryption, firewalls, intrusion detection, audits, inspections, and more.

With each measure in place, you can be confident that your important information is safe and secure.

Password Protection

You have a unique username and password, ensuring that only you can access your information. Submitting incorrect login credentials three consecutive times will lock your account for 10 minutes. This is to block any manual or programmed hacking attempts. In most cases, we have no access to your username or password. However, if you decide to provide us with this information, we will never share your username and password over the phone or send it to an email address not pre-registered with your account.

Highest Encryption

Our system uses a 256-bit Secure Socket Layer to scramble your data, further preventing access to unauthorized users. This is the highest level of encryption currently available and twice the standard followed by many financial institutions, including banks.

Routine Security Testing

Third-party security auditors and software, including TraceSecurity, Tenable Security, and White Hat Security, are employed to identify vulnerabilities and assist us with remediation efforts.

2-Factor Authentication

Your client portal account uses 2-Factor Authentication (2FA), a complete fraud detection platform that uses a dynamic risk- and rules-based approach to identify high-risk behaviors and initiate an additional layer of security. With 2FA, you are sent a verification code to your mobile phone, which you must input along with your username and password to access your client portal. This additional layer of protection safeguards your sensitive financial data and strengthens the security of your account by requiring two methods of verifying your identity.

Non-Transactional

Unlike online banking, trading, or shopping websites, your money cannot be moved, withdrawn, or accessed on your client portal.

Special Needs Financial Planning

What is the Chartered Special Needs Consultant designation (ChSNC®), and what does it entail?

The Chartered Special Needs Consultant (ChSNC®) designation offered by the American College of Financial Services equips financial services professionals with the specialized skills required to help special needs families plan for the future. ChSNC® designees are trained to navigate the unique considerations of estate planning, special needs trusts, tax deductions, healthcare issues, Medicaid complexities, and emotional aspects of providing for a loved one with a disability, making them the only credential in the financial industry designed to provide special needs families with an advisor competent to address their unique concerns.

Is there a difference between a traditional financial plan and a special needs financial plan?

While similarities may overlap, planning for families with a child or family member with a disability requires a specialized framework to address the additional needs and challenges within the plan. Without expert planning, a traditional financial plan may inadvertently expose a family with special needs to potential risks and financial pitfalls.

To learn more about our services in special needs financial planning, please get in touch with us by scheduling an introduction call, emailing us at contact@maxiam.com, or calling to speak with a member of our team at (888) 958-3566.

I don’t have a plan in place yet. Where should I start?

We understand that life can grab hold of you. Before you know it, another day, week, or month has passed. You may also be in the process of gathering as much information as you can to make the most informed decision for yourself and your family.

Either way, you’ve taken an important step. We’ll help answer any questions you may have and share how we help families with special needs financial planning.

I’ve already established a special needs trust. What should I do next?

A special needs trust is an important legal tool within a special needs plan. It protects a person with a disability by maintaining their eligibility for public benefits. Therefore, ensuring a special needs trust is funded and managed correctly is critical.

We’ll help you identify special needs planning strategies to maximize the resources within your plan.

Does Maxiam Capital collaborate with service professionals to assist individuals and families in need of financial planning for special needs?

Yes. Maxiam Capital works with attorneys, trustees, and other qualified service professionals to meet the fiduciary goals and objectives of the beneficiary.
